At JTM Service, supporting charities and giving back to the communities we serve is very important to us. Each year, we select charities to support through fundraising activities involving our team, customers and partners.

We are delighted to announce that Newark Women’s Aid has been chosen as one of our two charities for 2026, alongside Parkinson’s UK.

Founded more than 50 years ago, Newark Women’s Aid is a small, friendly, independent, local charity providing specialist services to support women with or without children who have experienced physical, sexual, emotional, psychological or economic abuse from a partner, ex-partner or family member. The charity provides refuge accommodation and a community-based outreach service, helping individuals and families rebuild their lives in safety.

Domestic abuse affects people from all backgrounds and can have a devastating impact on victims and their families. Charities such as Newark Women’s Aid play a critical role in providing protection, guidance and support at some of the most difficult times in people’s lives.

The charity was proposed by JTM Service Account Manager Nicola Whittaker, who felt the organisation’s work aligned closely with the Values of the business and the type of causes we seek to support.

“One afternoon I had the pleasure of spending some time talking with Marlene regarding Newark Women’s Aid. By the end of our conversation, I was in awe of Marlene and the work that the team at this charity do, and I had even shed a few tears. They really are a powerful reminder of what a difference people can make when they are willing to give their time to help those in need”

As a business, we have always aimed to support a combination of national and smaller charitable organisations. Smaller charities frequently rely heavily on fundraising support and can have an enormous impact within the communities they serve.

Newark Women’s Aid stood out to us because of the practical and life changing support it provides to women, children and families every day. We believe it is a cause that deserves greater awareness and support, and one where our fundraising efforts can make a meaningful difference.

Marlene Ferris, who has dedicated many years to leading Newark Women’s Aid and was awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) for her services to victims of domestic abuse, welcomed the support from JTM Service:

“Over the past 50 years Newark Women’s Aid has provided shelter and support for thousands of women and children, many of whom we are still in contact with. Our aim is to help women rebuild their lives and confidence, following the traumas they have experienced.  We assist families to access move-on permanent accommodation, and when families are re-housed, we help with white goods, beds, furniture etc.  We rely heavily on support from our local community, both financially and with practical items, as families often arrive at the refuge with no belongings. We prepare welcome bags of toiletries, towels, clothing etc, and without their support we would he struggling to do so.

We are extremely grateful to JTM Service for choosing to support our Charity, and any donation will be much appreciated.  Our thanks go to everyone who is taking part in the hike, we hope you have a great day.  Once again, we can’t thank you all enough for your wonderful and much needed support.”

As part of our fundraising efforts in 2026, members of the JTM Service team will be taking on the Lyke Wake Walk in August. This is a demanding 40 mile hike across the North York Moors, and we are proud to be supporting both Newark Women’s Aid and Parkinson’s UK to raise funds and awareness.
