At JTM Service, our three core Values are Heart, Drive and Integrity. They’re much more than words to us. They influence how we work, how we treat each other and the service our customers receive. Over the coming weeks, we’re sharing how we put each of our Values into practice, starting with Heart.

Heart is about genuinely caring, showing empathy, taking pride in what we do and appreciating others. We demonstrate this in three ways:

  • Caring for Our Customers
  • Caring for Each Other
  • Caring as a Business

Caring for Our Customers

Looking after customers isn’t just about fixing machines or installing new ones. It’s about understanding their needs and the needs of the people who rely on their services.

We recently received some lovely feedback from St Luke’s Hospice, following an installation by our team. The customer said “Our experience of working with JTM Service has been excellent from start to finish. The installation team were friendly, efficient, and respectful of the hospice environment”.

It’s lovely to receive feedback like this, particularly when it recognises not just the work we’ve done, but how our people have treated others.

Another example came from a care home supporting people with dementia. One of the residents came into the laundry and mistook our engineer Gary for her husband, asking him to take her for a walk. Gary took time to speak with her, and the experience reminded him of his own grandmother, who had dementia.

It’s a lovely reminder that our engineers work with people, not just machines.

Caring for Each Other

We love recognising and celebrating our colleagues, and one of our favourite traditions is Spin the Wheel at our quarterly Company Meetings. Colleagues nominate each other for demonstrating our Values, with 86 nominations in our most recent round!

But Heart also shows itself in everyday moments. When Jamaine joined our installation team, he nominated his colleague Chris for his patience, encouragement and for making him feel so welcome.

And when one of our engineers was going through a particularly difficult time personally, he nominated Matt for the support he’d received, saying that Matt genuinely cared for him.

It’s these small acts of support and appreciation that help make JTM Service a great place to work.

Caring as a Business

We want to create a business where people feel valued, supported and proud to work. Over recent years, we’ve invested in mental health support, with Leanne and Suzanna becoming qualified Mental Health First Aiders. We’ve also added benefits including private healthcare, a staff profit share scheme and paid volunteering days.

We’re particularly proud to have been recognised as one of The Sunday Times Best Places to Work for two consecutive years, with 94% of employees agreeing that JTM Service cares about their wellbeing.

Our commitment extends beyond the business. This year, colleagues have used their volunteering days to support different charities, and six members of the team completed the 40-mile Lyke Wake Walk, raising over £2,400 for Parkinson’s UK and Newark Women’s Aid.

We also continue our annual support for Simon on the Streets, a Leeds-based homeless charity, with eight colleagues taking part in Simon’s Big Sleep Out and raising over £1,600.

Values can be easy to say, but they only matter if they are truly lived and breathed. At JTM Service, we are passionate about our Values and we believe they benefit our customers, the team and others. Heart isn’t just a word on a wall, it is reflected in the way we treat customers, support each other and make decisions as a business.
