At JTM we are passionate about supporting independent living in the community. We regularly create bespoke washing machines and tumble dryers to assist people with disabilities, helping them to enjoy a better quality of life.
There are many things that we take for granted, and we don’t mean playing sports or going out with friends. Things that you or I do every day such as taking a shower, washing our clothes or getting ready to go out might seem like mundane tasks – but for many, it’s just not as easy as that.
Living with reduced mobility can make routine tasks seem mountainous and often unachievable. Our priority is to make life easier for those needing a little extra assistance, and that’s why we adapt our machines and our service to best aid those in need. We work closely with our customers to provide an end product that suits their individual circumstances, giving them as much independence as possible.
We were recently approached by Lorna from Glasgow whose brother is severely disabled and as a result, has great difficulty using a regular washing machine.
“I contacted JTM to source a one touch washing machine for my disabled brother, having read about the wonderful work they have done developing machines for various organisations supporting physically disabled adults,” said Lorna.
“JTM responded promptly to any questions or queries I had and went, quite literally the extra mile, driving from Leeds to Glasgow to deliver and install the washing machine – ensuring we understood how to use it, and that we were happy with all of the adapted functions.”
So, how did we do it?
We removed the standard facia and controls and replaced it with a one button control panel, making it much easier to use. This adaptation removes any confusion over programme selection, as there is now only one! The wash cycle is a 40 degree cotton wash that, with low temperature detergents, is suitable for just about any fabric.
As soon as each programme starts, an automatic detergent pump fitted to the rear of the appliance dispenses the correct amount of detergent automatically. This makes the task of laundry easier still by removing those fiddly processes like measuring washing powder, which can be a real pain.
At the end of the program, the machine door opens automatically. Simple!
Lorna said the machine enables her brother to maintain his independence without her having to worry about his ability to use the machine.
“The quality of customer service has been outstanding and it is refreshing to deal with a company that truly delivers customer service. I cannot recommend them highly enough”.
