What is your job title?

Senior Service Engineer

What are the key aspects of your role?

My role is to support our engineers in the field with technical advice and guidance to ensure customers equipment is back up and running in a timely manner. I also visit sites with engineers to assist with fault diagnosis on more difficult breakdowns. After new beginners have completed their JTM Service Academy training program, I support in the field with more hands on training. All this whilst still undertaking the full role of a Service Engineer.

How long have you been with JTM Service?

I started in January 2009 coming from a large international engineering company where I gained a wide range of mechanical engineering skills over 19 years 10 months (Not that I was counting!).

How has your role changed in that time?

I started as a Field Service Engineer with no experience of laundry/dishwasher equipment, however, with my previous engineering background and the JTM Service training provided it allowed me to develop my skills quite quickly.

Since then I have gained Commercial Gas Laundry Equipment qualifications for both natural gas and LPG. I have attended numerous training courses with Miele, Electrolux etc, and recently I stepped up to Senior Service Engineer and I am looking forward to the challenge.

How has JTM Service changed in that time?

When I started at JTM Service the engineers had no laptops, we had multiple paper files of parts diagrams and no in house technical support. Today we have up to date laptops, reems of digital information on every machine we repair and full technical support on hand. Over the last few years the team spirt has grown with everyone working together for the benefit of the company.

What do you enjoy about your job?

I relish a challenge, I get great satisfaction from the more complex mechanical jobs and being able to resolve them first time for our customers. I enjoy mentoring the new engineers.

What do you enjoy doing out of work?

I love the countryside and walking/training my Springer Spaniels. I like going to see bands around the country and listening to music

An interesting fact…?

I collect rare and special Jack Daniel’s and in 2018 I won a competition to visit the Jack Daniel’s Distillery in Lynchburg Tennessee USA. Four nights in Nashville with a VIP tour of the distillery, all expenses paid. It was a once in a lifetime experience.
