Earlier this year, we introduced a volunteering scheme at JTM Service, giving every employee one paid day each year to support a charity of their choice. Recently, Jo Firth and Wendy McLorg took advantage of the scheme to support two very different charities.

Jo worked with Surplus to Purpose, who tackle food waste in Bradford, while Wendy worked at Cats Protection, helping a cause very close to her heart.

Jo’s Day at Surplus to Purpose

Jo had a busy day at Surplus to Purpose in Bradford, helping the organisation make good use of surplus food that would otherwise go to waste by making it available to local communities. Jo helped prepare 56 fruit and vegetable boxes for schools and members of the public, sorted through deliveries of surplus food, stocked shelves and even spent some time serving customers.

Jo said, “I had a brilliant day at Surplus to Purpose. It was hard work but really rewarding. It was eye opening seeing how much food would normally go to waste! I loved it and I am definitely going to go again and help out when I can.“

Wendy’s Day at Cats Protection

Wendy chose to spend her volunteering day supporting her local Cats Protection charity shop. Working alongside the shop’s volunteers, Wendy enjoyed meeting customers, helping out in the shop and being part of a team supporting a charity that does important work for cats in need.

What Wendy hadn’t expected was quite how rewarding she would find the experience.

“I was lucky enough to spend a day volunteering, supporting a charity of my choice. The people were wonderful, the customers were lovely, and there was something really rewarding about simply being part of a team doing something positive for a charity supporting animals I absolutely adore. I came home feeling genuinely uplifted – so much so that I went back again to volunteer on the Sunday! “

Well done to Jo and Wendy. It’s great to see them enjoying their volunteering experiences and supporting charities that matter to them.
